Big Four AccountingFirm KPMG has agreed to pay $8.2 million in order to settle charges from the SEC that it violated auditor independence rules, according to the SEC. The SEC said that KPMG had provided non-audit services such as bookkeeping and expert services to the affiliates of companies that they were auditing, which is a violation of auditor independence rules; compounding this, the SEC said that some KPMG personnel had stock in their audit clients.
